Elevated Strawberry Fruiting (ESF) System
Currently being researched under a 2018 USDA NCR-SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education) grant "Improving Worker Welfare and Grower Profitability in Small-Scale Strawberry Production". This team project includes Tanglewood Berry Farm, Rhoads Farm (Circleville, OH) and Indiana Springs Berry Farm (Indiana Springs, OH).
The ESF system uses wireless sensors to determine best courses of action to reduce heat stress in the plants. Grower benefits include easy harvesting, less plant disease, higher quality fruit and reduced worker fatigue during harvest and plant renovation.
Harvest season is over for 2019.
